Trap & Treat® CAT 100

Conventional in situ methods often fail to penetrate tight soils, fractured bedrock, or silty zones, leaving chlorinated solvents untouched and forcing repeated injections or invasive excavation.

CAT 100 solves complex contaminant remediation by delivering effective treatment in these challenging environments.

What Is Trap & Treat® CAT 100?

CAT 100 is an innovative environmental remediation product that combines the power of BOS 100®’s contaminant-trapping technology with biotechnology.

It’s specifically designed to treat contaminated soil and groundwater, focusing on sites with high concentrations of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs). This makes it ideal for projects requiring complex contaminant remediation.

How It Works: Engineered for Deep Reach and Effective Treatment

CAT 100’s technology works through a precise, multi-step process:

  • Electron transfer: Contaminants adsorb to activated carbon surfaces, forming an electrical connection throughout the elemental iron and carbon structure.
  • Electron pump: CAT 100 contains complex carbohydrates and peptides that ferment slowly, creating a steady supply of electrons. This electron pump fuels the conductive network, driving ongoing degradation.
  • Catalytic iron support: The metallic iron acts as a catalyst, allowing for more contaminant treatment than traditional iron-based methods. Since the iron is not significantly consumed, it preserves long-term reaction potential.

Application

CAT 100 is mixed with water to create a slurry, which is then injected in a triangular grid pattern for plume treatment. It can be applied through:

  • Direct push injection
  • Soil mixing
  • Trenching

Targeted Remediation for Chlorinated Solvents

Here’s how CAT 100 delivers consistent results, even in challenging environments:

  • Amplified dechlorination capacity: By combining electron conduction, fermentation, and metal catalysis, CAT 100 enables far greater contaminant degradation than traditional iron-based systems — even in hard-to-reach zones.
  • Versatile treatment: It works in various geological settings, including sands, fractured bedrock, and consolidated bedrock that resist standard in situ treatments.
  • Minimally invasive: It reduces the need for excavation or multiple injections, preserving site integrity and lowering costs.
  • Long-term performance: CAT 100 remains active in the subsurface, providing ongoing treatment without generating daughter products.
